At Big Smiles Music Academy, we firmly believe that singing (and enjoying it) is our birthright and that everyone can do it. Our mission is to help raise and nurture strong independent singers who are able to sing whole-heartedly. We believe this process can begin at infancy and that we can continue to grow throughout our lives. It begins when we give ourselves the opportunity to forgive the negative beliefs we have about ourselves as singers and we learn to open our voice and let our heart open with it. It is a beautiful experience, and we are here to help!

We are located in the Kaikodo Building at 64 Keawe Street, Hilo, HI on the 3rd floor, Suite 302.

Charles Haines is a singer, songwriter and improviser who has been singing professionally for over 15 years. Growing up in a very musical family, he quickly jumped into the world of musical theatre and choir. Charles’ musical journey has allowed him to expand in many different directions, including directing an a cappella group (DePaul Men’s a Cappella), singing in a 6-piece funk band (whysowhite), and making an album of sweet island folk songs (Big Island Banana Band). Since moving to Hilo, Charles has been focusing his musical energy on exploring the world of vocal improvisation with his teacher Rhiannon. Charles is a proud graduate of Rhiannon’s All the Way In vocal improvisation program. Charles is also a registered Music Together® Teacher.
